The series of exhibitions "Leather bastards" on the example of artistic practices offers methods of studying the "body" as a border and as a framework — constraining, but also defining self-identification. "Leather bastards” is a meme, a phrase from videos about Boston Dynamics robots that call people who meet on the way.
In the collages of Sergey Bondarev figure of a man is changed and deformed in accordance with the requirements of pop culture. If Cindy Sherman and Mamyshev-Monroe created self-portraits to find their body through its presentation, then Sergey Bondarev works with an alienated image, using the practice of objectification as an artistic method, turning the face into a flat material.
Sergey Bondarev is an interdisciplinary artist who works with painting, sculpture, textiles, and theater projects. Combining and reinterpreting classical painting techniques, the aesthetics of mass culture, pop art, and fashion, he uses the bright theatrical expression and coloristic possibilities of the material to create his own sensuous images and expressive language.
